About The Paddock
The Paddock is a sunflower field run by Casey and Beau MacGregor on their family dairy farm at Crooked Brook, in the Ferguson Valley near Dardanup, about two hours south of Perth. Each January, once the black oil seed sunflowers reach full bloom, the MacGregors open around two and a half acres of the crop to the public, planted in two large blocks with wide paths between them for walking and photos. The opening window is short, around ten days timed to the peak of the bloom, and exact dates are announced closer to the time on the farm's Instagram page. Visitors cut their own stems to take home, paying a donation of $10, $20 or $30 a bucket depending on how many they pick. A paddock alongside the sunflower blocks is set aside for parking, and cold drinks, snacks and locally made pastries are sold on site. The Shire of Dardanup helps with traffic management on event days given the crowds the sunflowers draw. Outside its short January season the farm is closed to visitors and the paddock returns to a working dairy pasture.
