About Chestnut Brae

Chestnut Brae is a 70 acre certified organic sweet chestnut farm at 106 McKittrick Road, Carlotta, near Nannup in the South West, and the only organic chestnut farm in Western Australia. John and Linda Stanley have grown chestnuts here since 2013 using regenerative farming methods, alongside heritage sheep, pigs, guinea fowl and alpacas.

The farm opens its chestnut orchard for picking each autumn, from March to May, when visitors can forage through the trees for around three hours. Entry costs $15 for anyone 12 and over, which includes the first kilogram of chestnuts picked, with further chestnuts charged at $15 per kilogram; children under 12 get in free. Visitors are advised to bring gloves, sturdy shoes and a jumper, since picking happens outdoors through the south west autumn. The property is open 10am to 4pm every day except Tuesday, with a farm shop selling chestnut flour, syrups and other chestnut products, along with a picnic area and toilets on site. Chestnut Brae is about three hours from Perth and can be reached on 0409 104 120.
