About Folly Farm Blueberries
Folly Farm Blueberries is a small, boutique blueberry grower at 192 Falls Road, Olinda, high on Mount Dandenong in the Dandenong Ranges. Planted in 1982, it was one of Victoria's first commercial blueberry plantings and grows heritage bushes alongside newer varieties without chemical sprays.
Picking is strictly by appointment: call the farm between 9am and 5pm to arrange a time, as visits depend on the season and how much fruit is ripe. The season typically runs from early January through February, sometimes stretching into early March. Entry itself is free, but every picker is asked to take home at least one kilogram of berries.
The farm is a working orchard rather than a tourist attraction, so there is no cafe or formal visitor facilities on site; it suits people who specifically want to pick and take home fresh blueberries rather than make a day of it. Because picking depends on the weather and how the crop is tracking, it is worth phoning ahead before making the drive up the mountain.
