Forest Dragon Fruit Farm is a family run pick-your-own dragon fruit (pitaya) farm at Forestdale, in Logan City south of Brisbane. The farm grows around 15 varieties of dragon fruit on cactus-like plants, including yellow, purple and red fleshed types, and is one of only a few growers in Australia offering this much variety.
The fruiting season runs from November through to July, with most fruit available over summer and autumn. Entry costs $5 per person, which includes a bag of feed for the farm's animals: sheep, alpacas, chickens, ducks and pigs, alongside beehives. Picked dragon fruit is priced by the kilo, from around $8 up to $40 for rarer, more prized varieties.
This is a working farm rather than a polished tourist attraction, with equipment in use around the property, so visitors should keep an eye on children, especially given the spiky cactus plants. At last check the farm was open on weekends only, but hours can change, so checking the farm's Facebook page before visiting is worthwhile, particularly outside the main fruiting months.
