About Coal River Farm

Coal River Farm is a working farm, restaurant, cheesery and chocolate producer at 634 Richmond Road, Cambridge, in the Coal River Valley near Hobart, with sweeping views over the surrounding vineyards. Alongside its restaurant and free daily cheese and chocolate tastings, the farm grows an orchard of strawberries, cherries, apricots, plums and figs that visitors can pick themselves in season, and there are pigs, goats and chickens to visit as well.

The farm is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm for breakfast and lunch. Picking runs through spring and summer as each fruit ripens in turn: strawberries first, then cherries and apricots from around December, plums in mid to late summer, and figs running into autumn. Because this is a working orchard rather than a dedicated pick your own operation, what is available to pick changes through the season, so it is worth calling ahead or checking the farm's Facebook page to confirm what is ripe before visiting.
