About Chappies U-Pick Cherries and Berries
Chappies, trading as Chapmans Berry and Fruit Farm, is a fourth generation Chapman family farm at 21 Parker Road, Silvan, in the Dandenong Ranges foothills of the Yarra Valley, about an hour from Melbourne. The family has grown fruit on the property for more than 120 years across around 50 hectares. Cherry picking is the main drawcard, running from mid to late November through to January, with the farm open daily 9am to 5pm during the season except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Raspberries, blackberries and the farm's Krimson Berry variety are also available to pick on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays over summer.
Entry to the orchard is $10 for adults and $5 for children, with preschoolers free, and hand picked fruit is charged by weight at the gate. Visitors who prefer not to pick can buy fresh picked cherries and berries, along with locally made jams, from the farm gate shop on site. As with most Silvan orchards, picking depends on the season and the weather, so ringing ahead or checking the farm's Facebook page before driving out is worthwhile.
