About Frances Strawberries
Frances Strawberries is a family run hydroponic strawberry farm near the hamlet of Frances, between Naracoorte and Bordertown in the South East of South Australia. It is owned and run by Sam and Adam Frost, who also run an earthmoving business, and grow around 15,000 strawberry plants off the ground in coconut husk bags fed by nutrient rich water, using collected rainwater rather than the area's naturally salty bore water.
The farmgate shop sells fresh strawberry punnets as well as jam, dessert sauce, chilli relish, sorbet, icy poles and toasted granola, and is open seven days a week through the fruiting season, which runs from late October to May. On the farm's busiest days, such as Boxing Day and New Year's Day, visitors have also been able to pick their own strawberries in the patch until stock is sold out for the day. Strawberries from the farm are also stocked at a handful of small local grocers rather than major supermarkets. Because a current phone number and exact address were not confirmed, visitors are best to check the farm's Facebook page before travelling out.
