About Botaniculture

Botaniculture is a family run flower farm on a hilltop at Silvan in the Yarra Valley, growing dahlias and other cut flowers in the area's volcanic soil. Its dahlia picking experience runs on weekends from January to early April, weather permitting, starting with a short tour of the market garden to see how the flowers are grown before visitors are handed a bucket and a pair of snips to harvest their own dahlias from the field. Sessions are priced from $65 per person and include a generous bucket of farm fresh blooms to take home.

Numbers on each session are kept small to keep the visit relaxed and personal, so booking ahead is required and popular weekends sell out early. Botaniculture recommends closed toe shoes or gumboots, comfortable clothing and a hat, and suggests bringing a camera for the flower field. The farm also runs a separate florist and flower delivery business from a shop at Burwood East, and wholesales its Silvan grown flowers, but the picking experience itself takes place at the Silvan farm. The exact picking location is provided to visitors once a session is booked.
